What Does the Groundhog Know? 5 Ways to Beat the Winter Blues

With the sighting of his own shadow on Groundhog Day, Punxsutawney Phil has signaled that the nation will see six more weeks of winter.

The prediction comes much to the disappointment of my friends who live in areas that have seen extreme cold.

I'm not complaining about the weather here in Florida. Although there have been a few chilly days this season, it's nothing compared to the ice and snow that the Polar Vortex has brought to states farther north.

This week has seen highs in the upper 70's and lower 80's. The forecast for next week is a bit cooler, but freezing temperatures aren't in the picture.

Because of my geographical location, it's easy for me to get into Spring mode. But what about people who don't live in a subtropical climate?

That's why I've created this list of five tongue-in-cheek ways to get Spring started and show that glorified groundhog who's boss!

Spring forward early.
Why wait until March 9 for the start of Daylight Saving Time when you can make it happen right now by just setting your clocks forward? Bonus: You'll be early for work, spurring your supervisor to give you that raise you've been asking for!

Pretend that you're on a tropical vacation.
Don't feel like impressing your boss? Use your extra hour at work to act as if you're on your own private island. Slather on sunscreen and wear your sunglasses and flip flops. Set your desktop background to a beach scene, lay back in your office chair, and pretend the fluorescent lights are the sun's rays basking you in your tropical glory. When your co-workers come in at their normal time, tell them you're on spring break.

Have an indoor Easter egg hunt.
Invite your confused co-workers and some of your friends to your place for an Easter party. Have them hunt Easter eggs that you've hidden all over your house. The person who finds the most eggs gets to come with you on your pretend spring break.

Wear pastels.
Dress code for your Easter party: pastel colors only! Break the seasonal color style rules by bringing some light pinks and blues into your wardrobe and make your guests do the same. Anyone wearing only dark colors isn't allowed! Check out the outfit photos in this post for inspiration!

Laugh!
Laughing is an instant mood-booster. Re-read this list and you'll be well on your way to beating the winter blues. Bonus: Share it with a friend so they'll get a chuckle, too!
