How to Turn Your Sketch into a ModCloth Dress

Sometimes I'll see a dress that I like but wish I could change just a bit. Maybe the print is too small or the colors should be different. I'll think to myself: "If only I could have told the designer exactly what I wanted!"

Well, now I can because I'm the designer. I've entered the latest contest in the ModCloth Make The Cut program, a recurring design competition that invites the ModCloth Community to design garments, graphics, or fabric prints. The program's main purpose is to further ModCloth's mission of democratizing fashion by producing clothing designed by community members.

Through Feb. 14, you can design a new print that has the chance to be used for a private label dress silhouette that is already being produced at ModCloth! Here's the design I submitted:

Want to get in on the action? Here's what you need to know:
  • Contestants can submit designs until Feb. 14.
  • After the submission period, the ModCloth Creative Team will narrow down the submissions to 20, which will be sent to the guest judge, Amanda Needham, costume designer for Portlandia!
  • After Amanda has chosen 10 finalists, they will be posted on the Be The Buyer page so everyone in the community can vote for their favorite March 3-10.
  • Then, ModCloth will contact the winner and update the contest announcement with the big news on March 12!
Get the full details here: Make The Cut.

Happy designing and good luck!

  1. Love your design! I love the idea of this contest and I feel like it's kind of a dream-come-true situation, but I cannot think of a design and it kills me :(

    1. Thanks! You still have time to come up with something! I'm usually get my best ideas when I'm doing something mundane like driving or brushing my teeth. My mind just starts to wander and creativity floods in.
